Abstract
Relevance. Changes in the secretion of saliva and its physical and chemical composition in patients with mental illnesses are a serious problem for dental health. Increased viscosity of saliva in these patients often occurs as a result of taking psychotropic drugs, stress, and impaired autonomic nervous system activity. Sticky saliva can cause tooth decay, gum inflammation (gingivitis), dry mouth (xerostomia) and bad breath. Also, high-viscosity saliva increases the accumulation of bacteria in the oral cavity, and it is important to identify bacteria that cause the development of tooth and gum diseases.
